Choripán de Argentina

I went to the Saturday Community Farmers’ Market in Fairfax, VA, at lunchtime today. There's a sandwich stand -- Il Bastone -- that makes choripanes from their own Argentine chorizo and chimichurri. I had a choripân made with piqante (spicy) chorizo. I also took a frozen pack of Chorizo Piqante home for me to cook (and a frozen pack of Bier Rostwurst, a Swiss and Volga German recipe from Argentina’s Calamuchita Valley).

Lunch Today, Dinner Tonight

Lunch today was at a deli, where I had this delicious bowl of matzoh ball soup and a half of a pastrami sandwich.

Dinner tonight was a mixed bag. A feta omelette. Texas Pete hot sauce topping. Kimchi on the side. Dessert was sliced banana and melon.

German Brunch Today

My wife and I went to DC today for German brunch at Café Berlin. I started off with a Jägermeister Bloody Mary, then continued with this Frühstücksplatte, a "typical German breakfast German cold cuts, cheese, jam, honey, butter, a five minute egg and a breadbasket" of croissants and sourdough bread. The potato pancakes in the back were for my wife to have with her schnitzel. Everything was very good!

Israeli Salad

For the Kentucky Derby BBQ we're going to today, I made an Israeli (or Kibbutz) salad. The dressing is lemon juice based and that's za'atar sprinkled on top. It has finely chopped peppers (three colors), tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions.

Al Fresco Lunch

What a couple of days of heavy rain we've had! Thank goodness we were spared the tornadoes and heavy flooding they got in other parts of the U.S. Many roads in our area were closed and, in nearby Maryland, the floodgates on a dam were opened.

Today, is wonderful here, though. It's sunny and 75°F. The birds are singing. The air smells fresh and clean.

Our son's cat and I are having lunch outdoors in the screened porch. My main course is the little bit left from last night's roasted salmon fillet, served chilled, with fruit chutney on the side. Beverage is iced tea and dessert is butterscotch pudding.

The cat had a can of whitefish catfood.

Enjoy the spring!
